Our Mission
STURM is the platform that finds the lies of the mainstream media — and what they cover up for governments. Freedom is not a state. Freedom is a practice — and it begins with no one unchallenged deciding what you may say, read, and know. We arm that practice with evidence.
Who we are
Mainstream media are not a source of truth; they are newsrooms with editorial lines, interests and proximity to the governments they report on. To us they are a subject of investigation: we check their reporting against the primary sources — courts, statutes, gazettes, parliaments, agencies — and document the gaps, exaggerations and covered-up connections. And because credibility is the only currency an anti-censorship project has, we clear up lies in both directions.
What we want
1. Make censorship visible — with evidence, not assertion. Censorship is rarely called censorship anymore. It goes by “content moderation”, “policy violation”, “countering disinformation”, “proportionality”. We document what actually happened: court rulings, legislative bills, leaked internal directives, dated primary sources. Every case in this wiki is a dossier you can verify — sentence by sentence, footnote by footnote.
2. Make sovereignty possible — with instructions, not sermons. “Become independent!” is cheap when nobody explains how. Our guide shows step by step: Signal over WhatsApp, Firefox over Chrome, your own domain over platform accounts, keep cash, use pseudonyms as a right. Every recommendation names its price (time, comfort, money) so you decide which independence is worth it for you.
3. Debunk all lies — including our own. The most discrediting thing about most “freedom” projects is that they only correct the other side’s lies. We make the opposite mandatory: every dossier contains a “Debunking” section correcting oversimplifications — including the ones that would help our own cause. Whoever fights censorship with lies loses the only thing that beats censorship: the truth.
4. Lay open the statistics of unfreedom. Press freedom, democracy, journalists killed — serious measurements exist (RSF, V-Dem, CPJ). We invent no scores of our own and mix in no opinions. We show the numbers, name the sources, and explain what they do not say.
What we are not
- No party mouthpiece. Censorship from left, right, state, private — all of it appears, if documented. Whoever only records the other side’s censorship is campaigning, not doing truth work.
- No haven for conspiracy lore. “Show the emails, the court order, the investigative report” — without evidence, nothing. This strictness is not a weakness; it is the product.
- No founder cult. The initiator goes by “Mastermind” — deliberately nameless and unlinked. This wiki is judged on its arguments, not its founder.
Why now?
Because fundamental rights are under pressure everywhere at once: platform bans in Brazil,1 deletion mandates in Europe,2 double-titled laws in France,3 mass surveillance in the US,4 journalists killed at record rates in 2025.5 And because nearly every one of these examples is known individually but nowhere collected reliably, multilingually, and verifiably. That is the gap STURM closes.
How to contribute
STURM is a wiki: anyone can correct errors, add cases, translate. The path runs through issues, pull requests and discussions on GitHub — open, versioned, comprehensible to all. The standard for every contribution is in CONTRIBUTING.md. Three merged dossiers qualify you as a maintainer.
Our technology — and why it is part of the mission
A site that writes against datakraken while loading trackers has not understood its own subject. STURM is built the way we recommend.
Static instead of data-hungry
STURM is a static site (Jekyll, built on GitHub Pages). Concretely:
| Practically every website | STURM |
|---|---|
| Tracking pixels, analytics scripts, cookies | 0 trackers, 0 cookies — there is simply no script that could watch you |
| External fonts (Google Fonts) — report you on every page view | 0 external calls — system fonts, everything served from our own repository |
| Server-side profiles, databases of user behaviour | No database, no login — the site does not know its visitors |
| Ad CDNs sharing movement profiles with third parties | No ads, no CDN calls — one CSS file, inline, done |
This site cannot surveil you — not because we promise it, but because the architecture does not allow it.
A public repository instead of a black box
All code and content live publicly on GitHub: every change visible in Git history, every source checkable, every correction traceable. There is no back-room editorial — contributions run through pull requests anyone can read.
Footnotes instead of “everybody knows”
Every factual statement carries its source in scholarly format (author, title, date, URL, access date) — as an in-text kramdown footnote and in the source list at the end of each article. It is deliberately as rigorous as a dissertation: whoever disagrees with us should be able to disagree at the sources.
Copyable instead of fenced in
All content is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 — anyone may mirror, translate, print, and spread it offline. A site against censorship that hid behind walls would contradict itself. If sturm.wtf ever disappears, the corpus lives on in every fork.
